Original : Today, September 1, Sony will host an IFA 2016 press event where it’s going to announce various new devices. This event and September 1 come tomorrow for the majority of our readers.
Regardless, given that Sony creates a multitude of products ranging from TVs, to speakers, to headphones, to cameras, to smartphones, it’s hard to say what will be announced but two of the new products that the company will unveil on the day are smartphones. Xperia Blog has gotten its hands on press photos for the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact which were confirmed in previous reports.
It appears that the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact have somewhat similar designs. However, the former is larger, thanks to a 5.2-inch display, while the latter is expected to sport a rather small 4.6-inch screen (of course, plenty of users will probably love this compact screen).

The images yet again confirm what we have already known from rumours that Sony’s new phones will support USB Type-C, adding to the growing list that are upgrading from microUSB. This would make these the first of Sony’s smartphones to use the new standard — including the Xperia X on which the X Compact is based.
If one were to draw conclusions from these images, it also looks like Sony might announce official cases for both devices. Also what looks quite clear from the last image is the fact that Sony is probably using multiple camera sensors at least on the X compact which if true should also be the case with the Xperia XZ.
Just in case you’re hearing about these photos for the first time, the rumors say that both these phones will apparently pack the same hardware, with the Xperia X Compact being the smaller of the two.
This means that both phones will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, 23MP rear-facing cameras, 13MP front-facing cameras, USB-C ports, and will most likely come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. There have been reports of leaked specs on a benchmarking site claiming it sports a 16MP camera but they’re wrong.
So far there’s really nothing about the phones that stands out in particular, but we suppose in terms of design, at least Sony’s being pretty consistent. Either way check back with us later or tomorrow for the details or follow us on Facebook/Twitter. Talking of ‘compact’, check out this humongous 21 inch Acer laptop that sounds too crazy to be a laptop. Also, Lenovo just announced this amazing Yoga Book which is not just another hybrid, its so much more and you’ll want it. Its innovation. And HTC announced its new and “improved” A9s. Its disappointment. Samsung launched the Gear S3 twins.
Are you excited about the new Xperia X phones? They do look pretty darn amazing design wise.
