Blackberry DTEK60 : Leaked photos, specs, FCC certification

Despite all the initial pessimism, BlackBerry’s first dive into the Android realm with the Priv actually turned out to be a solid effort. Not so much in terms of sales though but the Priv was a very good device over all. However, the DTEK50 that followed did not receive those positive reviews however.

It’s good to see that hasn’t discouraged Blackberry at all.

Rumors are piling up quick and by all accounts the new DTEK60 will be unveiled shortly. A few days ago BlackBerry actually posted a full specs page for the device by mistake. Evan Blass tweeted this today.

The device passed through the FCC today as well. The filing doesn’t give us many details, but does confirm the phone’s existence. There’s more though. The latest leak features the phone’s official press photos. It looks like an Alcatel Idol 4S and that is no mistake. Blackberry’s DTEK devices are actually manufactured by TCL, the company that owns Alcatel. Blackberry Priv was the only Android device made by Blackberry itself.

The DTEK60 will come with a 5.5-inch QHD display and just like its predecessor, no physical keyboard. Underneath the hood there is a Snapdragon 820 SoC, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The camera setup consists of a 21MP main snapper and an 8MP selfie one. Of course, the device will boot Android, complete with BlackBerry’s own set of security features and apps and will draw power from a 3000 mAh, Quick Charge 3.0 compatible battery. There is also a USB Type-C port. It also sports a rear facing fingerprint scanner, a first for Blackberry.

Although the Alcatel IDOL 4S is a dual SIM phone, it’s not known for sure if the DTEK60 will be offered in this configuration. The only hint that we have is if we look at the FCC certifications which provided two different model numbers. BBA100-1 and BBA100-2. We can only assume the latter number represents a dual SIM model, otherwise (more likely) it could represent a CDMA vs a GSM model.

BlackBerry DTEK60 is slated for a November 11 release and said to carry a price of 699 CAD (which equates to about 530 USD).
