Google’s October 4th event is still a couple of days away, set to happen this Tuesday morning, but it appears that the leaks surrounding the Pixels, are not yet finished. While there has been much speculation of whether or not any carriers would be selling the Pixel and Pixel XL, it would seem that a confirmation has unofficially surfaced as the Bell Canada website appears to have the landing page setup for customers to buy the Pixel, the smaller of the two phones. We’ve also heard rumours of Verizon carrying it in the US and Telstra in Australia. That was earlier.
Now it looks like Carphone Warehouse has jumped the gun as well just a bit ahead of the 04/10 #madebygoogle event.
Carphone warehouse also has already made their store listings for the Pixel and Pixel XL live, showcasing the devices in more pictures and confirming specifications previously only rumored with what appears to be full marketing materials (thought we’re a bit dubious about the copy), this product page give one of the clearest, most detailed visuals of the Pixel Phone yet.
These aren’t leaks anymore – these are actual listings for the new devices. Granted, all of this is subject to change until the official announcement in two days, but most of these specifications have already been leaked.
Since the Pixel and Pixel XL have both been leaked numerous times in images, the real interesting bits are the specifications that are listed for each device, although you do get to see various angles of each phone in the overview section of the Carphone Warehouse website. Aside from the new angle or two of each device, Carphone Warehouse makes it abundantly clear that consumers will have the ability to customize their phones with “Cases by Google” similar to the way Google allowed people to create special personalized cases for the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P. Something which was not really detailed before now.
The images also confirm that Google will provide free unlimited photo backups, at maximum resolution, through Google Photos for both devices. Additional photos advertise Google Allo and Duo, quick charging over USB Type-C, Google Assistant.
A couple points of interest if these specs are to be believed:
- Expandable memory – this would be the first phone from Google since the original Nexus One to include expandable storage. This is a feature EVERYONE would love to see. However, these are pre-release specs could just be placeholders so, don’t take it as confirmed just yet.
- OIS will make a return – as great as the Nexu 6P and 5X cameras were, the lack of OIS was missed. Your low-light pics will thank you.
- Snapdragon 821 – Qualcomm’s latest, greatest, fastest chip looks to be on-board.
- No Waterproofing – We don’t see any mention of waterproofing. As the iPhone 7 and Galaxy S7 both include a high level of water resistance, it would be a shame not to see this in the Pixel Phones.
Both devices will be powered by a Snapdragon 821 CPU clocked at 2.15GHz, with 4GB of RAM and with either 32GB or 128GB of internal storage. They have AMOLED displays with Gorilla Glass 4, at 1080p for the Pixel and 1440p for the Pixel XL.
The battery will be larger at 3,450mAh on the Pixel XL instead of the 2,770mAh found in the Pixel. Again, there are no pricing details available here for the Pixel XL nor are there any color options listed, but the same applies as before, as the images reveal that there will be a black and white option. What isn’t known is whether or not Google will release any colors beyond black and white, and the website still doesn’t list details on availability cost, but those details will surely be made public at Google’s event on Tuesday morning.
