Nokia’s return to the smartphone market is eagerly awaited by everyone; this is precisely why the listing of company’s recently spotted D1C device on benchmark site GFX Bench is likely to disappoint many. While many speculated Nokia was coming back with a smartphone as they had promised, the D1C is actually a tablet, and a huge one at that. 13.8-inches to be precise.
Earlier this month, the specifications of a Nokia D1C device were leaked via benchmark site Geekbench, which interestingly, didn’t provide the size of the screen on the device at the time. However, a new listing on GFX Bench clarifies the display size, and tips other specifications.
Famous leakster Steve Hemmerstoffer, aka @onleaks, has posted a photo on Twitter which leaves little to imagination about the Nokia D1C tablet.
The Nokia D1C listing on GFX Benchsuggests that the device will sport a 13.8-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) display and that it will be powered by a 1.4GHz octa-core Qualcomm processor coupled with 3GB of RAM. The processor is backed by Qualcomm’s Adreno 505 GPU. Looking at the technical specifications of the CPU, it’s very likely to be the Snapdragon 430. It also tips that the tablet will run on Android 7.0 Nougat.
On the back, the Nokia D1C comes with a 16-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash. The tablet also carries an 8-megapixel camera on the front. It’s yet not clear if the front camera also has flash and autofocus features. Both the cameras are capable of recording videos at 1080P resolution.
The latest Geekbench leak confirms earlier reports and also adds more information to it. Going by the specifications, the Nokia tablet should be a sub-Rs 10,000 phone since companies like Xiaomi has similar innards in its Redmi 3S smartphone. However, it will not be surprising to see Nokia try to cash in on its fanbase and price the phone higher.
If real, the Nokia D1C will be the second Android tablet by the company as it has already launched tablet N1 previously.
In May, Nokia signed a deal with Finnish firm HMD Global to make Nokia-branded Android smartphones and tablets for the next 10 years. Since then, leaks have suggested that the company will be coming out with two phones this year with screen sizes of 5.2-inch and 5.5-inch. The smartphones were suggested to sport 2K resolution (QHD) displays and were tipped to come with IP68 certification, which effectively means they will be highly resistant to water and dust.
Have you been waiting for Nokia still? Does it disappoint you that the D1C is a tablet? It will be interesting to see how Nokia presents a 13.8″ android tablet and sells it. I’m guessing it they don’t expect people to use it as a normal tablet, if they’re wise.
