Now Allo gets its space on the Google Homepage

Google is among some of the biggest names in the world of technology. Having started off with nothing but a simple search engine, Google has today evolved into a multi-billion dollar corporation. The company has been coming out with a large number of innovations in the markets of technology, and among these innovations, one of their biggest powers has been that of volume. A large volume of people use their services frequently, primarily the Google Search. Throughout its history, Google has refrained from putting advertisements or anything else on its homepage, unlike the other search engines of its time that Google has beaten. 

However, the search giant has taken to advertising its products on its homepage, starting with Duo last month and then the Pixel phones earlier this week.

Advertising anything on their search homepage would mean a message reaching out to billions of users over the world. And Google, now seems to be tapping into this potential pool of target audiences. The latest Google product to be advertised on the Google Homepage is Allo, Google’s smart messaging app with an integrated assistant. Google Allo was announced back in May, during the Google I/O 2016 and is one of the most popular app launches this year that is losing its ground fast just like Google Duo and Pokemon Go, both of which although had a better initial adoption rate than Allo. Twice bitten, thrice shy? If that makes sense.

The message on the Google Homepage reads “Say hello to Google Allo, smart messaging for Android and iOS.” Perhaps this latest push is an attempt to steal some market share Google-Play-Button-NEW-e1460739245700from the big players in the messaging arena. This seems to be region specific however and people from certain places may or may not see this (yet?).

All I can say is don’t go the Niantic path of useless updates Google. Listen to what the early adopters want, and add SMS support, and multiple devices. I really want to use Allo and Duo as the primary communication apps on my Android (just as I wanted Pokemon Go to be the Pokemon Game we thought it would be) but unless Google itself makes them competitive enough, how much can one push these half-baked apps down the friends’ and family’s throat?
