Generally, a product shipping early is a good news for customers, but in case of Google’s Daydream VR headset, it sort of doesn’t matter. Sure yo get the hardware, but it’s nothing more than a blinding headset for your eyes for when you want to get away from the world.
Apparently since the early shipping of the headsets is accidental, and several days before the official November 10 shipping date, there’s no app available on the Playstore yet.
The VR headset by Google called Daydream View doesn’t work until an app called “Google VR Services” is installed on the phone. That’s a problem, because as mentioned, the app has yet to be published in the Google Play Store.
Since the official shipping date is November 10, we can expect Google will be releasing the accompanying application at least a few days before that. If you’re one of the lucky ones to have received the headset early, and you place your Pixel in the slot, an embedded NFC tag will direct you to the app in question on the Playstore, which is a blank listing as of now.
Currently only the Pixel and Pixel XL support Google’s Daydream VR platform but several other smartphones that launch in the future will supposedly support it too. If you want to pre-order the Daydream View headset, you can still do so from Google, and the headset will be available for purchase from Best Buy, Verizon, and the Google Store for $79.
Are you one of the “lucky” ones? If so, are you a bit miffed about having to wait anyways to begin your VR experience?
