“Nokia Pixel” and a couple other lower end Nokia devices leak on Geekbench

Nokia’s return to the smartphone industry is expected to kick off in late February with an announcement at MWC 2017 in Barcelona. Some specs for Nokia’s new Android flagship leaked yesterday and now a certain Nokia Pixel has surfaced on Geekbench. The Nokia Pixel was apparently benchmarked earlier this month.

That said, I’m pretty sure that will not be the official name of the device when it does come out. This Nokia Pixel looks to be a lower end device though as its specsheet suggests.

Nokia’s new piece of hardware scored 404 on the single-core test and managed to achieve a 661 multi-core score. The Geekbench listing reveals that the device in question is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 system-on-chip which boasts a dual-core CPU clocked at 1.19 GHz complemented with the Adreno 302 GPU, as well as 1 GB of RAM. In other words, this is a low-end, entry-level Android phone, most likely designed for emerging markets. Despite that, the Nokia Pixel tested by Geekbench was running Android 7.0.1 Nougat. It’s also worth noting that the leaked phone boasts Quick Charge 3.0, seeing as the Snapdragon 200 was spotted onboard.

These are not very high scores, but then again we are talking about an entry-level model. In September, a mid-range unit called the Nokia D1C was run through Geekbench multiple times. The highest single-core score was 682 (achieved twice) with a 3229 multi-core test. This model carries the Snapdragon 430 chipset with an octa-core 1.4GHz CPU and an Adreno 505 GPU inside. 3GB of RAM is aboard and Android 7.0 is pre-installed.

Another device from Nokia is listed with name Nokia Ara at Geekbench that comes with similar specifications like the Nokia Pixel device but with the difference of the Android OS version. It is listed with the Android 5.1.1 OS pre-installed while the Nokia Pixel has a Nougat OS version. Other specs are same as Nokia Pixel like a 1.19 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 (MSM8610) processor with 1GB of RAM. It scored 400 points in single-core test and 664 points in the multi-core test. No other specs are listed in the Geekbench test.

Nokia C2-00 PureView, runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with 2.99GHz Intel Pentium G3220 single-core processor, along with 1.5GB of RAM. This handset scored 2523 points in the single-core test and 2428 points in the multi-core test.

As you may have pretty much guessed by now if you ignored the title, all the devices spotted at Geekbench are possibly entry-level devices unless Nokia prices them like Sony. While entry-level devices probably won’t excite many people browsing Android tech sites, keep in mind that the these are probably just a small part of what HMD Global has in store for us next year.

As the new Nokia owner also hired Mother, the largest independent marketing agency in the United Kingdom to market the upcoming Android smartphones, so we should expect to see a lot of Nokia-branded advertising next year.

What do you think of Nokia’s lineup formed via these leaks? Were you expecting only flagships from Nokia?
