Xiaomi Mi 5C features an in-house SoC with 3GB RAM

Xiaomi Mi 5c has a new image leak which clearly shows the front and the back design of the phone. Based on these leaks, the phone will resemble the Xiaomi Mi 5 in terms of the design, at least from the front, though unlike the Xiaomi Mi 5, it will ship with metal on the back, instead of glass.

But don’t expect the Mi 5C to feature specs similar to those of the Mi 5s. The Mi 5c will be a lower-end alternative, and today an alleged spec sheet for it has been leaked in China.

If the source is to be believed, the Xiaomi Mi 5c will sport a 5.5-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display, along with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage. The device will be fueled by Xiaomi’s in-house SoC called ‘Pine Cone’ or ‘Pinecone’, depending on which rumor you opt to believe. This processor will be octa-core will be clocked at 2.2GHz, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based MIUI 8 will ship out of the box here. The 12-megapixel camera will be placed on the back of this smartphone, while you’ll be able to find an 8-megapixel snapper on the phone’s front side. For those of you who need NFC functionality, you’ll be glad to know that the NFC chip will be included here as well.

It isn’t unheard of for a company to power its own handset model with a chip it designed itself. Samsung has the Exynos line, Huawei uses its Kirin chipsets, and Apple employs the “A” series which is currently at A10. But this is the first time a Xiaomi device will feature an in-house SoC. It should be pointed out that chips like Huawei’s Kirin 960, Samsung’s Exynos 8890 and the Apple A10 are all high-end chips. The Pinecone inside the Mi 5c? Not so much.

Leaks have shown the handset with a fingerprint sensor built into the home button on the front – which will be flanked by two capacitive keys you’ll be able to customize, but will serve as the back and overview (multitasking) buttons – and 2.5D glass on top of its screen.  It sports a sleek frame with round edges, the volume and power buttons are both housed on the right edge, and the camera module with the flash is housed on the top right edge at the back. The Xiaomi Mi 5c smartphone is expected to come in Rose Gold, Gold, and Black colour variants.

As far as pricing goes, a poster advertising a pre-sale of the phone listed it at the equivalent of ₹9,890 or $145. We could see the device unveiled on November 30th.
