Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are both more than a month away from an official launch but when has that ever stopped a smartphone’s specs to leak out. Not that this is the first time for these devices either but this time around the leak comes from the packaging for the devices so consider this almost official.
Doing the honors once again is Evan Blass (@evleaks), a very trustworthy source when it comes to leaks. He posted the above leaked specsheet today on his twitter handle and as was previously rumoured, the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus will come equipped with a 6.2-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display. Although, the materials do note that it is only 6.1-inches when the rounded corners are factored into the equation. The “rounded corners” and QuadHD+ are interesting additions to previous rumours because this sounds more and more like LG’s 18:9 display on the G6.
As for the rest of the specs, which you can see above yourself, the device has an IP68 dust and water resistance rating. Dual 12MP cameras on the back and an 8MP camera on the front should satisfy most of your photography needs, and knowing Samsung, it can be assumed that these cameras are better than last year’s S7.
Samsung Knox security, 64GB internal storage with microSD support, 4GB RAM, Samsung Pay, wireless charging, and headphones that are “tuned by AKG” are also there. If you don’t know, AKG is an acoustics and headphone company owned by Harman, which Samsung recently bought. Additional features include 4G LTE compatibility, and an Iris Scanner in case you were missing your Note 7.
The Galaxy S8, the smaller of the two is also rumoured to have a 5.8 inch display. It’s clear Samsung wants all those Note 7 buyers to get the S8/+. If you’re worried about the size, the actual dimensions of the body are almost similar to last year’s Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, only the screens are larger.
The leak does not specify the Android version powering the device but we can at the very least expect Android 7.0 Nougat. Another expected feature not mentioned in this list includes Bixby, a voice assistant from Samsung. We might just have to wait for an official announcement for that. Samsung will be revealing a launch date for the Galaxy S8 at MWC this month, where they are expected to launch a new tablet.
Excited for the Galaxy S8? If you were a Note 7 user, would you buy the Galaxy S8+?
