Former Googler Hugo Barra recently announced his plans to leave Xiaomi where he worked worked as a global VP since 2013. While at the time he did not announce his plans for the future apart from wanting some time off, Barra has now confirmed via Twitter that he has accepted a job offer from Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg announced that Barra will be joining the social network to lead its virtual reality efforts, including the Oculus team. as he will be leading the company’s Oculus team. It’s been long-rumoured that Google is developing its own smartwatches, mostly because several Android Wear manufacturers have decided not to move forward with new wrist-worn products anytime soon. The rumours are now confirmed by Jeff Chang, product manager of Android Wear at Google. After the LG G5‘s lackluster reception and Google scrapping Project Ara, Motorola’s Moto Z line seems to be the last hope for modular phones and Motorola is betting big on Moto Mods and the company seems committed to their vision of the modular smartphone. In fact, Lenovo’s Moto execs told a small group of journalists this week, the company itself will commit to releasing at least 12 new Moto Mods a year.

Google Glass promised a sci-fi style future where we’d never forget a person’s face or lose our way in a city. Unfortunately, it also ran into a host of privacy problems and was ultimately scrapped. Google has now moved onto VR, like most in the industry.

Back when Google first launched Cardboard into the Play Store, it was viewed as little more than an experiment, a neat little gimmick that would never make it to the mainstream. This week, however, marks the launch of the proper, version 1.0 product that Cardboard was laying the groundwork for; Daydream. Compatible only with the Pixel and Pixel XL right now – with Nexus device and more devices to support it soon – Daydream is a platform that is finding its legs still, but rather than walking as Cardboard did, Google is hitting the ground running.
