Recently we have been seeing a lot of price cuts on the data plans, etc. from telecoms service providers in India. We saw Airtel and Idea cellular slashing their prices or rather you can say offering more data etc. for the current prices. And now on the same lines, we have yet another service provider who is following them. This time, it is Vodafone.
Total internet subscribers in India reached 342.65 million in March with Bharti Airtel leading the chart, Parliament was informed today. As per data shared by Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha in the Lok Sabha, there were 34,26,54,750 internet subscribers as on March 31, 2016.
Telecom minister Manoj Sinha share a list of 138 internet service providers, telecom major Bharti Airtel topped the chart with 90.53 million internet subscribers. It was followed by Vodafone with 67.55 million subscribers, Idea Cellular 44.03 million, Reliance Communications 39 million, BSNL 34 million, Aircel 22.44 million, Tata 21 million and Telenor 13 million.
Sistema Shyam (MTS), MTNL and Videocon had internet subscriber base close to 2 million while rest of the companies have less than 1 million users. As per data, Reliance Jio listed in the chart had only 1 subscriber by March-end.
Maximum number of internet subscribers in urban area are from Maharashtra with 19.72 million and UP East topped the chart with in rural internet segment with 11.21 million subscribers.
Recently, a report suggested that the number of Internet users in the country is expected to go up to 50 crore, from the present over 40 crore, in next 5-8 months. According to our estimate, out of these, 70 percent people are going to access Internet through mobile phones. About 100 crore people, out of the population of India of nearly 125 crore, have mobile phones, the minister said, adding that every month, 20-35 lakh mobile users are added.
The global telecom body GSMA on Tuesday launched its mobile-based authentication solution, Mobile Connect, in India. ”India is already the world’s second-largest mobile market and as the country enters a new phase of mobile industry growth that will unlock far-reaching social and economic benefits, it is critical that consumer security is ensured at all times,” said Mats Granryd, Director General, GSMA.

The mobile network operators offering Mobile Connect services in India are Aircel,Bharti Airtel, Idea, Tata Teleservices, Telenor and Vodafone.
At present, around 42 operators in 22 countries around the world are implementing Mobile Connect, making it available to nearly three billion customers.
Mobile Connect is a secure universal log-in solution. It allows them to log in to websites and applications quickly without the need to remember passwords and usernames.
